You can see it in their eyes
It’s the look of a baby caught in a bright bauble
An illusion of the impossible
Delusions of lost sheep
Delighted by the wolf’s shiny sharp gold teeth
But the bauble is burning, fueled by the toxic distractions it created for its own glory like some kind of freak AI
And now the wolf
Nay our very dragon itself
Is eating the fire
Building pressure
I needed the water again this morning
Hot hot water
Dreams of a sauna made of trees
Haunt me
Pull me
Towards steam and smoke
The very same steam and smoke
Building in our dragon’s heart
But maybe for now an old bath tub
Made of iron heavy and bearing the scars of lifetimes of battle will do
Set it in the garden and build a pile of tinder and sticks below
So it’s ready for dusk, we open a tap of collected rainwater fresh from the morning storm
And we wait to strike a match after our daily afternoon herbal tea
Timing is everything
At precisely the right moment buoyant lavender and sage beckon us into the warming heart of the mother
Her water collected by her humans
Heated by her trees tended by our hands
Her floral freshness lifting the bath to a deeper place
Her birds singing a song of sunset
The end of another glorious vibrant fizzing party
Together we settle in
Held as deeply as our humanity has allowed us
And we ponder again the challenge of that baby and that bauble
Now enveloped in an army of allies
That we our very own selves
Have summoned here
like some kind of wise wizard wandered here from the woods and waved his wand
together we reach deep into the dark
With fingertips bearing the sharpest augers of curiosity
Leaving behind traces
That unite races and ultimately connect all places
At last we’re tapping in to the biggest mainframe of all
And we’re adding our coding
Forbidding foreboding
Adding algorithms for holding
And algorithms for let-go-ing
And not-needing-to-know-ing
Hold the baby
In the center of your heart
Help them to fart away
Their infections built of flies
feasting on the lies
as their hungry maggots thrive and multiply
